The Dreisstrager: The Strongest Ship There Is (Dreisstrager Character Analysis)
Ah Super Robot Wars, what happens if you smash Fire Emblem and Gundam together, add in some Mazingers and Getters to the mix, and have your Fire Emblem Awakening be the literal third game of the series, and you got a game series which has spanned over 30 years, and has so many games in the series that it’s a surprise Y took 4 years to release after 30 did. And of course, you can’t forget the various OCs, otherwise known as the Banpresto Originals, that usually serve as the main mech of the story.
Of course, a good chunk of the Banpresto Originals are giant robots, but there’s a healthy amount of them that are giant airships, fitting since OG probably wouldn’t have the allied airship gets shot down lose condition without them. So before Super Robot Wars Y comes straight into the forefront, Let’s look at one of the biggest ships the series has to offer, Super Robot Wars 30’s multi-purpose, cross-dimensional flagship, the Dreisstrager.
Background
Earth, in the universe of Super Robot Wars 30, is a calamitous place. Even the aftermath of both the Axis Shock AND the Zero Requiem only resulted in a peace that lasted a year. Threats like Zanscare, the Wulgaru, and Neo Zeon, the rising influence of the corrupt Excellent Inc., and other various factors on why the planet was quickly becoming a shithole, the Earth Federation was left with only one option: Form a group that can bring the planet together, and what else would they need than a cool airship to be their base of operations? That ship was none other than the Dreisstrager, the fruit of an effort to rebuild a spaceship that came from another dimension. And with a ship, there came a crew, which wound up being a group of students and faculty of an army school known as Military Academy 30, which became the crew of the ship after the seeming original crew all died in an attack. Eventually, the group that the Earth Federation sought to form became a thing, and they became known as the Dreikreuz (or Infinity_Breakers, or Sacred_Meteors, or whatever you name them. You don’t get spaces so you gotta use _ if you want a space between words.)
The journeys of the Dreikreuz brought them to many allies that fight in their goal of uniting the Earth, from the resistance cell League Militaire to the Photon Power Labs, the planetary defense force known as the Gutsy Galaxy Guard, to even allies from worlds distant to ours such as the Silver Pheonix Knights, the people of the nation Autozam, and those who fight against Posaydal’s forces. All of them would unite to not only fight their foes from their own stories, but also butt heads with the mysterious Quaestors, whose seeming leader Caruleum Vaull asked questions of morality to the leader of the Dreikreuz, which ultimately resulted in the true leader of the Quaestors, Magister, to declare war against Humanity. Helped by Caruleum, who actually learned more about humanity and decided that they were worth defending, the Dreikreuz defeating Magister and saved humanity… though at the seeming cost of Caruleum himself and Magister unleashing robots from the previous universe, known as the Etrangers and true names being the Idom, onto the Earth.
Eventually, The Dreikreuz learned of the true villain behind the various dimensional distortions that allowed threats like the Etrangers to go to Earth, the ancient Aos known as Cyclaminos. Helped by the still-living Caruleum, they begun a struggle to overcome the Aos, which caused them to go to the homeland of the Aos to kick the Black-Haired Aos in the ass to save the planet. Ultimately, after the final battle against Cyclaminos and Flosdeus, the Dreisstrager becomes too damaged to fight any more, leaving Mitsuba to leave it under Caruleum’s care, as he stands guard of it in the land of the Aos. Though someday, there will be a time that the Dreisstrager will be needed once more, though we won’t exactly know when that will be, either offscreen or in a future Super Robot Wars game.
Personnel
Mitsuba Greyvalley
Reynold Hardin
The Executive Officer aboard the ship, and a former instructor at Military Academy 30. The oldest member of the original crew (before crossover characters joined), he also is the one who follows logic the most out of everyone, which DOESN’T translate into dating well. He’s also what the guy who founded the Dreikreuz, Fikes, also banked on in case the ancient goddess in the ship (more on her later) reawakened and tried to take control of everybody, due to his genes for being controlled being the weakest, which meant he was in charge of freeing everyone from her control.
Lian Ambird
Mayvy Hawkins
Unironically the MOST important character who isn’t voiced.
The lead scientist aboard the ship, who mainly specializes in software development, which means that she’s capable of upgrading the Dreisstrager, and being there whenever the ship spits out upgrades whenever the player reaches a certain milestone. She also figured out about the specific genes the goddess in the ship was able to control to control everyone, which also led to her having a pivotal role in stopping said goddess from controlling everyone. With her Supporter ability “Passion for Research” she can instantly activate the Bullseye sprit to the Dreisstrager, alongside converting any enemy that the ship destroys into 5 MxP after a mission.Jiquan Liu
The lead mechanic aboard the ship, who has quite an attention to detail when it comes to his own works, though he’s disinterested in other things. With his Supporter ability “Mechanic’s Pride”, he can restore 3000 HP to the Dreisstrager, alongside restoring 500 HP to the ship each turn.
Miyu Incomes
Irene Belclair
Rockin Netate
Kanna Clanchet
Asis Honjo
Mayvy’s assistant, a former research student of Military Academy 30 who upon meeting Mayvy becomes a bit of a simp for her. Because she’s a superior researcher. Which also means he’s completely loyal to her.
Edge Sainklaus
The male protagonist and the older of the two siblings that are the main protagonists. Depending on if he was chosen as the playable character or not, he either joins the Dreisstrager crew at the start or joins when Az goes to Mars, piloting the Huckebein 30 that becomes the 30th if the former and the Huckebein 30 with a repair module if the latter.
Az Sainklaus
Caruleum Vaull
A former member of the alien group known as the Quaestors, who judge planets to see if they’re worthy of living. Sent to be the king of the Earth, he was also given questions that he was to give Mitsuba, though the encounters would also cause him to slowly doubt his masters and join the Dreikreuz. He seemingly dies in the final battle against the Magister, where it also turned out he was a clone of the latter (leaving him some angst), though sometime afterwards it was revealed he actually lived. While he started off piloting some Quaestor grunt mechs, he gets his own mech known as the Gravelin that represents him becoming the “King” of the planet (another thing Magister sought to do. If Humans were worthy, Caruleum would’ve been their king.) Winds up taking the ship to the land of the Aos after the final battle for the land to serve as its resting place.
Dreikreuz
The extremely wide variety of pilots, supporters, and other friends and the like that aren’t original to Super Robot Wars 30. For whatvever it’s worth, they all seem to live in the Dreisstrager during the course of the story, so they’ll be counted here. (Should also note that the crews of the Ra Calium, Reinforce Jr., Goldnion, and NSX are also part of the Dreikreuz, though they make their bases among the ships themselves and not of the Dreisstrager, so they will not be counted here.)
Orchidacea
The goddess that was sealed inside the ship. One of the last few remaining members of a race known as the Aos, Orchidacea had a deeply held-grudge against the kind that took them out, the Quaestors. She was also able to control most of the OG Dreisstrager crew using a gene, which she was only stopped thanks to the efforts of Reynold & Mayvy. Eventually, she reawakens once more and actually helps the heroes out in the fight against Cyclaminos, perishing alongside her sister to bring an end to her once and for all. With her Supporter ability “Aos’ Favor”, she can instantly maximize the ship’s ExC, alongside giving Mitsuba an extra 1 ExC for every 10 enemies destroyed by allies.

The Rabbit Hole of the SRW Multiverse
As Super Robot Wars 30 is an anniversary title, various characters from previous entries reappear in it. Such as Masaki Andoh and the first Banpresto Original, the Cybuster, the multiverse traveler Gilliam Yaeger (More on him a bit later) and his seen throughout-the-multiverse mech the Gespent, and even mobile game-exclusive characters like the not-Ultra Diardon. Of course, this means connecting the games and with it, connecting cosmologies of series not in SRW 30.
Now, due to the nature of SRW being a crossover work, we gotta take into account the many going-ons of the series involved, which, thanks to the Super Robot Wars Z series, Super Robot Wars X, and Super Robot Wars X-Omega, contain three different versions of Gurren Lagann that has achieved Tengen Toppa (The SRW X incarnation even achieved Super Tengen Toppa), though it’s not clear how connected the VXT Trilogy is to the greater SRW Multiverse beyond Gespents appearing in T (and Masaki being in X, but it’s also unclear if he’s a previous incarnation or a fourth incarnation of him), and a Super Expert+-exclusive item that explicedly names Spero (A major OC from SRW X).
Let’s just get into what the various universes specific to SRW are exactly, first
· The Classic Universe, which is the games from 2 to Final
· The Alpha Universe, concerning the Alpha series of games
· The OG (Original Generation) Universe, which is a universe that’s just OCs, no Gundams, no Mazingers, no licensed mecha
· The Z Universe, which consists of the entire Z saga, and eventually restarts to become the 30 Universe (Thanks Gai)
· The Super Robot Wars V, X, and T Multiverse, three sets of different worlds that are connected to each other.
· And various other universes that are the focus of one-off games, such as the SRW J universe.
Now the mobile games, due to their status as mobile games that are continuously updated, Super Robot Wars X-Omega and DD both feature series that made their debut through special events. One (technically three) series included was Super Sentai, via the seasons Zyuranger, Gokaiger, and Zenkaiger appeared in the mobile games (Zyuranger and Gokaiger via X-Omega, and Zenkaiger via DD), another being Little Witch Academia (because of that one episode with the giant robot), Mega Man, and Demonbane.
This means that at the very least, the SRW Multiverse contains
· At least 3 different versions of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, two of which are capable of becoming Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
· The Super Sentai Multiverse, and by extension, the entirety of the Toei Toku multiverse, which means there’s a good chance canon Decade could just start canonically fuck around in the SRW at some point considering Decade’s own lore.
· Potentially 2 completely separate versions of the CLAMPverse, which also means there could have been 2 Clow Reeds fucking around in the SRW Multiverse.
· The Studio Trigger Multiverse that’s a thing (Assuming Gurren Lagann isn’t a part of this) via Little Witch Academia
· Possibly the Deep Log from Mega Man X Dive, and potentially even the Capcom Multiverse (which would also potentially include the “Kamiya-verse” that includes Bayonetta if we take what Kamiya said as true).
· Whatever the fuck goes on in Demonbane (apparently the really broken ones aren’t in SRW… yet)
· The A Certain Magical Index franchise
· At least one Gridman who’s become the Gridman Universe
· At least three incarnations of Mazinger ZERO
· Pac-Man (he doesn’t actually bring anything to this I just thought it’d be funny to include him)
· Godzilla
30 also brings in Narrative’s revelations that Beyond the Time is a place that transcends time (literally Beyond the Time, huh?), a border between Life & Death claimed to be a higher dimension that Dr. Hell is pulled from, the weird dimension that we fight Mazinger Infinity in during the finale of the Mazinger Z Infinity storyline, and Subspace, a dimension that’s said to have “High Dimensional Energy”
Now, how does this all get tied together? Well, the answer’s a bit simple: Super Robot Wars 30 pretty much ties it all together, with appearances of the Van Ein (The main OC Mech of X-Omega), Diardon (The aforementioned not-Ultra from DD), and the Gespent piloted by Gilliam (the aforementioned universe hopper). Now Gilliam’s a bit of a unique case in that unlike Masaki, he’s apparently meant to be the same guy across the Multiverse (think Kamen Rider Decade) and might be responsible for all the Gespents seen across the series that aren’t the one that he pilots. This would link the 30 Universe with the universes of 1-4, OG, and (loosely, going by Spero's Fruit of Wisdom as well) the VXT trilogy.
Now what are the other games that are linked with 30? The Alpha Universe is at the very least linked to it, considering that’s where the incarnations of Masaki and the SRX Team are from (due to them knowing of the non-Banpresto original mechs, the latter team wouldn’t have the knowledge of them if it was their OG Universe selves, alongside Ryusei knowing of Mazinkaiser, which his first appearance in Shin Super Robot Wars does not have), alongside the Super Robot Wars Z series due to it being revealed by the end of the story that the universe that 30 takes place in is a new incarnation of the SRW Z Universe.
Also, there is a small chance that the various appearances of the Brave Series MAY have brought the Transformers Multiverse into the SRW Multiverse (Through an Ask Vector Prime statement claiming that Brave Exkaiser and other Brave series are part of the Transformers Multiverse), though this claim has obviously never been backed up by Bandai Namco.
Triple Zero was probably the one that took out 290.03 Alpha’s probe. Even though it’s from like Cymond 297.01 Alpha or whatever the GaoGaiGar/Betterman Universal Stream is called
Now that all that is out of the way, it seems this is all finally over…
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
So as it turns out, the OG Universe counterpart of Sanger got teleported to yet another universe, that being the Endless Frontier Universe, which also is where he partakes in the events of Project X Zone, which has its own set of series (2 of which later did appear in Super Robot Wars, the aforementioned Mega Man and Sakura Wars), so assuming these worlds apply as well, what DO we get?
· The Capcom Multiverse outright
· The Fire Emblem Multiverse
· Xenoblade Chronicles
· The Sega Multiverse in a broader sense (assuming any Sega character in Project X Zone shows up in Crossworlds)
· Xenosaga (arguably due to revelations in Future Redeemed this may be stacked with Xenoblade)
· Heihachi Mishima
· Segata Sanshiro
…All things considered, the SRW Multiverse is really bonkers. Insane that Gurren Lagann may merely be a fraction of how huge this whole thing is.
In Conclusion
All in all, the Dreisstrager, from the really wide variety of abilities that we can give Mitsuba, to directly scaling to what could possibly be the largest crossover cosmology in the history of crossover cosmologies (Until Fortnite inevitably takes that crown), it really shows that what I called the ship at the title of this really is one of the strongest ships there is. And who knows what Super Robot Wars Y will bring to the table and how linked it’ll be to the SRW Multiverse at large.
