The Goku Shockwaves of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Introduction
Ok, this is gonna be a real, real quick blog this time around. Okay you know how the Shockwaves from Goku & Beerus’ clash during DBZ Battle of Gods? So yeah, there’s a bit of a Goku Shockwaves moment in the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise. What is it? Well, let’s go and see.
There’s gonna be some 9anime/Aniwave screenshots because I’m not gonna bother waiting until the new DVDs are out, so uh, expect me to come back to this at a later date to update this if the new subs are gonna be different.
The Main Meat of the whole situation
Ok, now that we’re onto the main meat of the situation, let’s get into an introduction. So what I’m talking about here is the type of artifact that is the main focus of most series in the Nanoha franchise (I say most because Vivid and Vivid Strike don’t feature Lost Logias at all. Just Nanoha’s adopted kid training and fighting in some tournaments. The latter series she isn’t even the main character.). So why do they all need to contain them? Well if they’re left unchecked, they could easily grow their power, and what happens if it can become strong enough?
Yeah, statements should be taken with some scrutiny, especially from a 14 year old, but this is a 14-year-old who is, unironically, an expert in dealing with magical affairs and shit. Dude has a position that’s said that there’s like a 1 percent chance of clearing the exam for. But what DOES “Dimensional Space” encompass?
Well, countless worlds, that is. Should also add that the dub’s version of the line is “Within the Dimensional Universe, there are many, many worlds”. Dub for that other line is “Can have enough power to destroy an entire world or even the universe itself.” I shouldn’t REALLY be using the dub for evidence since things can be lost in translation. But still, I do have some understanding of Japanese to know what the word used for “world” is… it gets WEIRD, really. “Sekai” means world, but at the same time it can also mean universe. Really, I’d say to go with the dub claiming it’s just the universe that would be at stake.
Now that we got how powerful they can get out of the way, let’s see our main focus of attention: The Book of Darkness.
The Book of Darkness
Now onto something more important: The item of focus of the second season, A’s: The Book of Darkness. So, like I said earlier, each Nanoha series usually focuses on a different Lost Logia, for example the first season focused on these things called the Jewel Seeds. Now the goal of the heroes is to prevent the Wolkenritter (3 girls and a wolf dude who are part of the book) from filling out the pages of the book (they are filling out the book out of their own will because otherwise their latest Master will die. And she gave them a peaceful life and they like it.). Do they succeed in preventing the book from being completed? No.
But how did the book get completed? On Christmas Eve, Hayate’s (said master of the book) condition (caused by the book) gets worsened. Nanoha’s friend Suzuka (they became friends… peacefully at the start of the series) decides to invite her friends (Nanoha, Fate, and Alisa) to see her. When they do as it turns out, the Wolkenritter were visiting the hospital at the same time and they get found out. They attempt to settle things… and then these masked mystery men that showed up a few times show up, ensnare everyone, pull an amogus and transform into forms that are pretty much Nanoha and Fate but their colors are a bit fucked, teleport Hayate outside, then kill the Wolkenritter (don’t worry they get better) to fill out the last couple pages.
And that’s not all. Hayate freaks the hell out, she then… um… “morphs” into the Book’s will (It’s honestly a bit weird, so Reinforce [not exactly named at the time] just places her into a pocket dimension where she’s asleep and just appears where Hayate was) and now Nanoha and Fate have to go up against a Lost Logia at full power. Joy.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! Partway into the fight, The Book’s Will ABSORBS Fate into herself and places her into a weird dream realm where her mom, her mom’s lynx maid person, and her dead sister are still alive. The Book’s Will even said Fate would be sleeping “for eternity” (Nanoha called bullshit on that one. “No such thing as Eternity” or something like that) so now Nanoha’s left fighting the Book all by herself. She only gets an actual shot in when Hayate wakes up and restrains the Book’s Will’s Body from actually moving. But what about Fate? Will she’s aware it’s all a dream, especially since if Alicia never died, she wouldn’t exist, Alicia reveals herself to be aware of that too, gives her Bardiche, and Fate proceeds to destroy the entire Dream Realm to get out of there.
In the movie version of this, the pocket dimension where Hayate and Reinforce where in were also affected. Just letting you all know.
Scaling
Ok, now onto why I referred to that moment as a “Goku Shockwaves”, simply put, a LOT of characters, directly or indirectly, should scale to this.
But first, let’s just have a look at the Mage Ranks, or, how power levels in Nanoha are handled.
source: http://nanoha.julynet.jp/?%CB%E2%CB%A1%2FStrikerS#t78839f8
So, here’s a bit of a cheat sheet, those mages that have a 10 with them are Hayate, Nanoha, Fate, and Yuno. I should add that Yuno is pretty irrelevant in this. It says 10 years ago that Nanoha and Fate were AAA-rank Mages. (this is when they were 9 btw) and now they’re S+-Rank. So I’d say it’s fair to assume that they would scale far above Fate breaking out of Reinforce’s Dream Realm. So I’d say ANYONE who’s above AAA could potentially be at the same level as post-NachtWal Fate.
NOW there are some characters who are a bit more indirect in terms of chain-ness instead of comparability. Chief example: Vivio Takamachi, who at the end of Vivid managed to beat her adoptive mother in an Exhibition match, and nearly lost to Rinne from Vivid Strike. Doesn’t really stop a lot of characters from having the scaling. Nanoha handed a lot of the new characters their asses near the end of Vivid because they asked to fight her. I don’t even think she had limiters on her.
I haven’t even gotten to the movie characters who CAN directly scale to Fate. Such as Kyrie, Levi (who’s essentially a clone of Fate. A clone of a clone. Go figure). And even others who should be comparable, such as Stern, Dearche, and Yuri (She’s also a part of the Book of Darkness BTW)
In Conclusion
So yeah, guess I wanted to make a quick blog on how there’s a Goku Shockwaves moment and probably ended up making an argument for at least Universal MGLN. I didn’t even mention how the main three are potentially at a higher level by the time of StrikerS. Or how Teana is the sole member of the Forwards who could actually be comparable thanks to Vivid’s anime. And I expected this to be short. This is like 500 less words than my first one.
