The Innocent Start of Nanoha Takamachi
Background
The year is 0065 of the New Calendar. An accident following an archaeologist by the name of Yuuno Scyla leaves the Lost Logias known as the Jewel Seeds scattered across the non-administrated 97th world, Earth. After trying to reseal one of them, Yuuno is reduced to an incredibly weakened state, but he manages to send out a message to someone with a high enough Magic Potential to help him out in the matter.
Enter Nanoha Takamachi, just your average 3rd grader, living an average life with her family in Uminari City. Lately she’s had this weird dream… that turns out to be the message that Yuuno sent to her. Finding herself answering the voice in the dream, Nanoha then found out what was with Yuuno. And then, she found herself face to face with the same monster that had the jewel seed that Yuuno tried to seal. So she did what anyone would do in that situation, gain the red orb that Yuuno had and take care of that monster. And when she did, she’s now the one person who’s going to have to reseal the Jewel Seeds.
So Nanoha now had to balance her normal life with the duties of resealing the Jewel Seeds. Something that became a bit complicated when another mage by the name of Fate also started looking for the Jewel Seeds. Fate easily defeated her in their first battle together, and Nanoha decided to have another goal in all this: Find out why Fate has these eyes that are so sad. The answer? She really wants to please her mother… who’s the Ragyo before Ragyo. Now after another battle with Fate, the two found a THIRD mage looking for the Jewel Seeds: Chrono Harlaown, a mage in service of the Time-Space Administration Bureau. Though they did get Nanoha to work for them on the matter, so it wasn’t that they’d be a third party in all of this. And how did the Jewel Seed incident end? With an attack on the base of Fate’s mother, Presea, which ended with her and her dead daughter Alicia falling into the endless void. Afterwards Fate was able to say goodbye to Nanoha until sometime after the Testarossa Trials ended, so they exchanged Ribbons and had a tearful goodbye.
In the next season, A’s, 6 months have passed, and it’s finally time for Nanoha to reunite with Fate! While on her way home from school, Nanoha suddenly gets attacked by this red-clad girl with a hammer, Vita, which eventually leads her and Fate (and the TSAB) to be put on the case of the Book of Darkness, and the Guardian Knights of the book, the Wolkenritter. The conflict eventually comes to a head on Christmas Eve when Nanoha and Fate meet the master of the book… a paraplegic girl by the name of Hayate Yagami (no relation to Light Yagami.), who, after an attempt at a final battle, reaches her breaking point and the will of the Book takes her over. A tough fight between Nanoha and the Book’s Will later, Nanoha and friends team up with Hayate and the Wolkenritter to form a Sacred Force to take down the Book’s Defense System.
Years after that, Nanoha has since become a combat instructor for the TSAB, teaching newer generations of Mages Magic and molding them into true Aces. And she’s also become the adoptive mother of a young girl by the name of Vivio. For now, everyone will have gentle days all under the same sky, but who knows when the next threat is gonna hit the world that she lives in.
What will Nanoha get in this?
Okay, I should probably lay down what exactly Nanoha is getting in this. Simply put, I am going to go off what she has in both the main continunity (MGLN S1 to Force) and what she gains in the movies (Reflection & Detonation specifically) due to their nature of existing in-universe meaning that the events of the movies probably DID happen in the main canon. Stuff like the PSP Games won’t be included due to them being non-canon to the main continunity outright (and besides, they contradict the movies due to them re-imagining the characters introduced there.)
Equipment & Forms
Raising Heart
Nanoha’s device that she’s had ever since the first season. Getting it from Yuuno in order to stop a monster that was after him, Raising Heart had registered Nanoha as its Master. In A’s, following the effortless defeat of Nanoha thanks to Vita, Raising Heart gets upgraded into Raising Heart Excelion, which allows the use of Belka Cartridges (Bullet-like cartridges that give a little extra oomph to attacks) which she then uses from that point onwards.
Raising Heart runs on Nanoha’s own will (alongside other Devices) and has a few modes of its own, such as its attacking modes Axel Mode, Buster Mode, Exceed Mode (Not to be confused for Nanoha’s own Exceed Mode), and Blaster Mode (what this entails I’ll get to later)
Aggressor Mode & Exceed Mode
Forms that showed up in StrikerS as Nanoha’s usual forms. Aggressor Mode is the weaker of the two, and is the form that Nanoha is shown to be throughout most of the series, and Exceed Mode is the stronger of the two forms, with Nanoha only going into the form when she can’t defeat someone in Aggressor Mode.
Blaster System
When push comes to shove, Nanoha has one even stronger trick up her sleeve, but this one also has a huge drawback. This is the Blaster System, a mode of Raising Heart that allows Nanoha to create Fin Funnel-like objects known as Blaster Bits to increase her power and endurance even more. This has 3 levels, where each level Nanoha can call upon more of them to help her out. (Level 1 has her call upon one, Level 2 has her call upon two, and Level 3 has her call upon four.)
Though, like how Goku’s SSB & Kaio-Ken x20 combination initially left him severely weakened, The Blaster System is something that also weakens Nanoha a bit after using it. And that comes after her first fight against Vivio, where she’s forced to pull out Level 3 of it and winds up making Nanoha lose 8% of her power output. Now has she recovered from this? She did use the system in Vivid so I can guess that she did.
Fortress Unit & Strike/Formula Cannon
An armored device that Nanoha uses during the events laid out by Reflection and Detonation and later on in Force. This also comes with the Strike Cannon, a cannon that can allow Nanoha to transmute her magic to become physical. This one has two modes, Close Mode, which allows Nanoha to use it as a physical weapon, and Open Mode, which allows Nanoha to do her usual fighting style.
During the events of Reflection, the Fortress Unit that Nanoha was using at the time gets enhanced by the power of Formula Magic, entering Mode F and its Strike Cannon becoming the Formula Cannon. This also disables the use of the Defensers that were installed within that specific Unit, though its unknown whether the Fortress Shields of the Force incarnation of the unit are compatible or not.
Magic
Midchildan Magic
The main type of Magic that Nanoha uses throughout the entire series.
Axel Fin
This is the spell that Nanoha mainly uses to fly. Really, nothing more should be said about this one beyond it being an enhanced version of a spell known as Flier Fin. It appears as a set of wings that appear around Nanoha’s feet. Otherwise, nothing else noteworthy about this.
Axel Shooter
Nanoha’s basic shooting attack, she can fire off magical spheres that auto-home onto the opponent. Like Axel Fin, this is also an upgraded version of a spell she had, this time Divine Shooter. The upgrade improved the turning speed and precision, alongside being able to fire off 12 of them, though she’s unable to cast this while moving.
Protection Spells
This one’s more or less a list of the various defense spells that Nanoha has.
Round Shield is the most basic defense spell that Nanoha has. Pretty much every mage that practices Midchildan Magic is capable of using this.
Protection is another defense spell that Nanoha has. It’s somewhat weak in terms of actual defense, but it makes up for it by being quick to cast, a wide area, and doesn’t cost much Mana to cast. About every capable mage in the universe knows this spell.
Oval Protection is a stronger spell defensively, this one covering a wide enough Area that covers both Nanoha and everyone in the spell’s Radius, and it can follow Nanoha’s movement so she doesn’t have to stay in one place.
Bind Spells
This is a type of spell anyone who practices Magic has as well. This allows the user to immobilize their opponent in their tracks. This can work on any type of enemy, even robotic enemies. Nanoha has a hybrid spell using both Binding Magic and Round Shield called Binding Shield, which she can use to shut down any close-range physical attacks that can be thrown at her.
ACS Driver
Full name Acceleration Charge System Driver, This is a charging spell that allows Nanoha to charge through her enemies by expanding the Strike Flame (a tip of magic that each device has) to surround herself. This also improves her speed and can destoy enemies just by being around Nanoha while in that state.
Divine Buster
One of Nanoha’s signature attacks, Divine Buster is a spell that has her gather mana to create a giant beam that can go through anything that stands in the way of its target. This has an alternate version by the name of Divine Buster Extension, which improves the range of the attack.
Starlight Breaker
Nanoha’s absolute strongest attack out of every spell in her arsenal. Cast by using up any stray mana in the battlefield, especially any mana that was leftover from attacks by anyone in the fight. It all combines into one giant beam that she can rain down on her enemies. Like Divine Buster, this is capable of going through walls in order to reach whoever is unlucky to be on the receiving end of this.
Formula Magic
Something that Nanoha gains during the events of Reflection
and Detonation. Formula Magic is a magic that is native to the world known as
Eldia. While on paper it doesn’t seem to have much differences from her usual
magic, Formula Magic has a specific spell that increases her Speed by the name
of Acceleration. While Nanoha doesn’t seem to use this magic to its full power,
it’s capable of making the user go so fast they essentially stop time for a
moment. Furthermore, there’s a powered up version of the attack known as System
Alter… though it also acts like a SSBKKx20 in having a huge risk in using it.
Other Spells
Of course, this isn’t the full scope of spells Nanoha has at her disposal. Other spells include Stardust Fall, a spell that functions like Meta Knight’s Force Falls (that attack he throws a lot of rocks at Kirby) attack from Forgotten Land, Reactor Purge, a self-destruct move that uses Nanoha’s Barrier Jacket as the detonation, and Crystal Cage, a spell that traps her enemies in a pyramid.
Conclusion
Nanoha is cool.
Might do another character-focused blog on their story and what they have and what they can do sometime as well.
