Flygalia VS Blog #1: Eeveelution Battle Royale

“What? EEVEE is evolving!”

(note: for full immersion listen to this ig)

Eevee, the Evolution Pokemon. The Pokemon with the most evolutions in the series, with half the entire type chart be covered in its evolution lines. Originally only obtained by finding a place where you got the singular Eevee in the entire game outside of breeding, Eevee’s since become a mon that can be caught in the wild, though it’s a bit rare to find.

Though which one of Eevee’s final forms is the strongest out of them all? That’s the purpose of this VS blog, and my first blog actually dealing with a matchup and all that. So let’s dive into the Eeveelution Battle Royale to see which one stands on top of all the others.

Material Used

For this, I’m just going to use the the main games because I do not think I have it in me to go through 1000+ episodes of the anime and god knows how many manga there are for individual feats for the Eeveelutions and stuff, but either way, they should all be comparable to each other.

I will also be going by the rules of “only wild Pokemon, no TMs or Move Tutor Moves” and will be going off their Generation 9 learnpools. I will, however, be including the various Egg moves that Eevee can learn as moves they can all use, alongside giving them both their normal and hidden abilities at once.

Kanto Eeveelutions

These three are Eevee’s original evolutions, introduced in Generation 1 alongside Eevee. Until Generation 8, their evolution methods were unique among the other Eeveelutions due to requiring the usage of the Evolution stones that various other Pokemon use.

Vaporeon is the first one in the Pokedex and is the Water-Type evolution of Eevee. Known as the Bubble Jet Pokemon and is obtained by using a Water Stone on Eevee. It’s able to melt away in the water thanks to its biology , blending into the liquid and becomes invisible to all. And hey guys, did you know that Vaporeon is the best Pokemon for human reproduction? …Sorry, someone had to do that joke somewhere. I don’t think any other Eeveelution has a joke as risqué as that.

Jolteon is the second one and is the Electric-Type evolution of Eevee. Known as the Lightning Pokemon and is obtained by using a Thunder Stone on Eevee. Using the electricity generated in its cells, Jolteon is able to eject pieces of its fur in a needle-like state at its enemies if its agitated enough.

Flareon is Eeveelution Number 3 and is the Fire-Type evolution of Eevee. Known as the Flame Pokemon and is obtained by using a Fire Stone on Eevee. The large tuff of fur on its body is actually a heat sac that helps it from overheating from the already-high temperature of 1650 degrees Fahrenheit. The highest temperature that its flame sac can get is 3000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Johto Eeveelutions

These are Eevee’s next two evolutions, introduced in Generation two. Both Espeon and Umbreon share the same way to evolve, however what you’ll get is entirely dependant on what time it is (or, as of Gen 8, if Eevee knows a Fairy-Type move or not)

Espeon is the fourth Eeveelution and is the Psychic-type evolution of Eevee. Known as the Sun Pokemon and is obtained by leveling up Eevee with high friendship during the day, if it being known as the Sun Pokemon wasn’t enough of a hint. Espeon bears precognitive powers that can allow it to know of the enemy’s moves and even the weather before anyone else can.

Umbreon is the fifth Eevelution and is the Dark-type evolution of Eevee. Known as the Moonlight Pokemon and is obtained by leveling up Eevee with high friendship during the night. Until the introduction of Sylveon, Umbreon was the only one of the fully-evolved Eeveelutions to have a type-immunity. Under the moonlight, Umbreon’s rings glow in the darkness. As earlier betas of Pokemon Gold & Silver have shown, Umbreon was originally slated to be a Poisom-type Evolution of Eevee before later on becoming a Dark-Type. Though a remnant of this is shown by Umbreon’s Gold & Sun Pokedex entries, which claim its capable of producing poisonous pores when threatened.

In spite of the absence of the day-night system in Ruby and Sapphire, Eevee is capable of evolving into these two if traded from FRLG… unless your battery is dried.

Sinnoh Eeveelutions

Starting with these two, the Eeveelutions got some… obtuse evolution methods that were thankfully removed by Generation 8. These two, introduced in Generation 4, originally had you going out of your way to a certain location before SWSH changed them into stone evolutions ala the Kanto Eeveelutions.

Leafeon is the grass-type evolution of Eevee and is known as the Verdant Pokemon. From Generations 4 to 7, it is obtained when leveling up Eevee in a location that has a Moss Rock in it, and from Generations 8 and beyond, it is simply obtained by using a Leaf Stone on Eevee. As Eevee’s evolution to Leafeon caused its cells to become similar enough to a plant, it is capable of preforming Photosynthesis. Leafeon was a planned Pokemon to be in Pokemon Gold & Silver but was removed from earlier builds in favor of Espeon. It took until Generation 4 for Leafeon to finally debut.

Glaceon is the ice-type evolution of Eevee and is known as the Fresh Snow Pokemon. From Generations 4 to 7, it is obtained when leveling up Eevee in a location that has a Ice Rock In it, and from Gens 8 and beyond, it is simply obtained by using an Ice Stone on Eevee. Glaceon is capable of lowering its body temperature to fire off fur needles similar to Jolteon.

Due to the presence of both the Moss and Ice Rocks and the Leaf and Ice Stones in Legends: Arceus, Leafeon and Glaceon can be obtained with both methods. Leafeon can also be obtained by both methods in BDSP as well, though Glaceon can’t be obtained via its newer evolution method due to the Ice Stone being unavailable.

Kalos Eeveelution

Sylveon is the final Eeveelution so far, and is the only Eeveelution to be introduced alone. The Fairy-type Eeveelution is known as the Interwining Pokemon and is obtained by Eevee leveling up with either two hearts of affection (in Generations 6 and 7) or high friendship (starting in Gen 8) while knowing a Fairy-Type move. The Ribbon-like appendages on Sylveon’s body allows it to be able to stop any conflict it can come across.

Learnsets

For this, I’m going to be looking into what moves are unique to each Eeveelution, then going into the moves that are shared across all Eeveelutions. It should be said that Pokemon has a wording when it refers to lowering stats by less than one stage. "Sharply" refers to raising stats two stages, "Drastically" refers to raising stats by three stages, "Harshly" refers to lowering stats two stages, and there's no known word that refers to stats being lowered by three stages.
