Rayquaza vs Midgardsormr (Pokemon vs Dragalia Lost) | Flygalia's VS Blogs #4
“Under this vast and endless sky, thousands… millions of people are living out their lives.” – Nanoha Takamachi
Rayquaza, the Sky High Pokémon
And Midgardsormr, the Windwyrm of Dragalia Lost.
The sky is something that we look at every single day, and with the sky there comes the wind. And upon the wind, there exists these two Emerald Dragons that will prove themselves able to defend the world. And when the time comes, they will regain that primal power that they’ve long lost in order to save the world. The Sky-High embodiment of the heavens will go up against the Windwyrm in a fight to prove who’s the best green dragon.
Ground Rules
In what’s probably unique for a VS Blog, I’m going to be laying out some ground rules
· Rayquaza will be treated as a wild Pokémon, so no Technical Machines or Move Tutor moves (Dragon Ascent is exempt due to being added to its level up moveset upon being added to Sword & Shield), or any potential scaling gained by being used by a Pokémon Trainer.
· While it gains access to TMs in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, they will not be taken into consideration for this.
· Midgardsormr will not be allowed any helper skills or shared skills, having to rely upon his own skills and boss skills only, nor will he be allowed any Wyrmprints to use (because quite frankly it’d be a headache trying to list them all)
· Midgardsormr will only have access to the highest tier wind bow in Dragalia Lost, Jorgmungand's Wrath
· Rayquaza’s Flying-type moves will be treated as Wind-attuned skills to Midgardsormr, and Midgardsormr’s Wind-attuned skills will be treated as Flying-type moves to Rayquaza
Now with that out of the way, what media will be used?
Rayquaza
· Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
· Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
· Pokémon: Hoopa & the Clash of Ages
Midgardsormr
· Dragalia Lost (this is all he has)
· A private server of the game that I went on to get info on his boss skills
Backgrounds
Rayquaza
Fug.
In ancient times, there existed two powerful Pokémon, Groudon, who forged the land of the Earth, and Kyogre, who filled the oceans of the Earth. These two are bitter rivals and fought constantly to prove the superiority of their domains, to the chagrin of the people and Pokemon who lived on the land. There is only one Pokemon that was able to bring an end to the endless clash the two Legends, an Emerald-colored lord of the skies known as Rayquaza.
Ever since ending the battle, Rayquaza defended the Earth from threats from space by residing in the Ozone Layer. In the region known as Hoeen, there exists a tower where Rayquaza was known to reside in while not on its duties known as the Sky Pillar. Should one seek to meet the Sky High Pokémon, simply mount the Sky Pillar, which one Pokémon Trainer and a member of the Draconids tribe once did in order to save their region from an incoming meteor, bringing forth a Meteorite that would give Rayquaza the power to grant their fervent wish, and once the Pokémon Trainer gained Rayquaza’s trust, they went to destroy the meteor, and save their home.
Midgardsormr
He used to just live with a rabbit girl. But now things have changed, and there’s a whole lot of people in the Halidom.
Upon the genesis of the universe, there lived two different beings, a human, known as Xenos, and a dragon, known as Bahamut. As the world was created, the elements took the forms of Dragons, the dragon that represented Water was known as Mercury, the dragon that represented flames was known as Brunhilda, the dragon that represented light was known as Jupiter, the dragon that represented shadows was known as Zodiark, and the dragon that represented wind was known as Midgardsormr. Together, alongside the dragon that represented the bonds between humans and dragons Elysium, they became known as the Five Greatwyrms. Though eventually, Xenos rebelled against the world, seeking to erase possibility for reasons not told to anyone else, and the greatwyrms did battle with him, eventually managing to win the fight.
Years pass, and eventually Midgardsormr finds himself in a new war, a war against one that sought to eliminate all Dragons, Morsayati, which ended in the otherworldly being’s defeat. Though sometime afterwards, the Windwyrm perished after a long life, and eventually he reincarnated to a new self. That new Midgardsormr fought against a human known as Alberius when Morsayati returned to the world, which resulted in the formation of the kingdom of Alberia. Years pass once more, and Alberia is in a crisis, though the youngest prince set off on a journey to forge a contract with Midgardsormr in hopes of resolving it. Testing his might, Midgardsormr eventually forged a new contract with the young prince, Though unbeknownst to them both, a new battle was about to begin, one that would witness the return of Morsayati, one that spanned the entire continent, and one that ultimately ends in sacrifice.
Experience
Rayquaza
At the very least, Rayquaza should have the experience of 2000 years under its belt, due to AZ having witnessed Mega Rayquaza’s fight against Primal Groudon & Primal Kyogre, and those events having occurred 1000 years after Rayquaza defeated Groudon and Kyogre the first time and 1000 years before the events of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Midgardsormr
While the Greatwyrms have existed since time immemorial, their bodies are ultimately mortal, and they reincarnate upon said body dying. Having been said to have originally died shortly after the first war of binding, which occurred 1000 years in the past, and having been said to be reborn centuries afterwards, alongside having fought in the Second War of Binding, which happened 300 years in the past, we can deduce that Midgardsormr has from 400 to 800 years of experience.
Abilities & Weaponry
Rayquaza
Air Lock
Since hail turned to snow, Rayquaza’s had to worry about one less damaging weather
Air Lock is Rayquaza’s only ability in its normal form. With this ability, Rayquaza has the ability to cancel out any effects caused by changes in the weather (For example, if Air Lock activates in a sandstorm, Rayquaza will render the storm unable to harm non-Ground, Rock, and Steel-type Pokémon)
Meteorite
Not an exact ability per say and more of an item that became part of its biology, the Meteorite is an item that allows Rayquaza to generate the energy needed to Mega Evolve without the need to have a Mega Stone (of which there is no Raquazite that exists)
Delta Stream
If you wanna take charge of destiny, ensure no rocks can really harm you.
Delta Stream is Rayquaza’s ability when Mega Evolved. With this ability, Rayquaza calls forth winds so powerful they can remove the weaknesses that comes from Rayquaza’s flying-type, making it so Rayquaza is a pure Dragon-Type when it comes to Supereffective moves against it (For example, while an Ice-Type move would hit for 4x effectiveness against Rayquaza, it would only hit for 2x effectiveness against Mega Rayquaza, and an Electric-type attack would be made not very effective.)

His Co-Ability PageSkill Haste

Jormungand’s Wrath
Who is Jormungand? We’ll never know, but he’s sure is angry about something.
A wind attuned bow forged by spheres of Primal Midgardsormr’s mana (and some sand), this is the strongest bow that Midgardsormr can wield in his humanoid form. Allowing him more than twice of the time he can have to land hits for a combo.

This move also allows Rayquaza to Mega Evolve into Mega Rayquaza after it ingested the Meteorite.
Midgardsormr
Wind Manipulation
As the Windwyrm, Midgardsormr can use the power of wind mana to attack his foes, with powers ranging from gusts of wind, summoning tornadoes, creating blades made of wind mana, and more.

A skill usable by Primal Midgardsormr when an adventurer shapeshifts into Midgardsormr Zero, Primal Tempest has Midgardsormr charge up wind mana, then releases it, hitting all in its radius.
Curse of Nihility
This is an utter bastard of a skill

Forms
Rayquaza
Normal Form
Something something State Your Wish
Rayquaza’s base form, and the form it is most commonly seen in. In this form, its ability is Air Lock, and its typing is Dragon/Flying.
Mega Rayquaza
Ready your heart, as for Mega Fug, Anything Goes.
Rayquaza’s Mega Evolution, first seen 3000 years ago in order to stop the fight between Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, and regained in the present when Zinnia gets the ORAS Protagonist to feed it the Meteorite in order to stop the Asteroid that threatened Hoeen. In this, Rayquaza’s ability changes to Delta Stream and gains a +60 total boost to its attack stats, a +20 total boost to its Defense stats, and a +20 boost to its Speed stat.
Midgardsormr
Humanoid Form
Either Because of You is in Myriam’s POV or its in his POV. Take your pick.
A much weaker humanoid form that Midgardsormr can assume. While his powers aren’t much in this state, he can fight with a bow and arrow, using skills such as Ancient Tempest. While he isn’t seen in this form in the game’s present, he begins using it more commonly following the final battle, as a way to remember Euden after he Madoka’d himself.
Base Form
Midgardsormr’s main form, capable of manipulating the winds
to create storms. He's seen in this form for most of the game. Naturally, it's miles stronger than his humanoid form.
High Midgardsormr
Special Boss form. No seriously there’s only one high dragon form that shows up in the story.
A powered-up form that Midgardsormr can take. This form only appears in the Advanced Dragon Trials events, though it’s a good amount much more powerful than his base form, being able to reduce the health of adventurers to a low amount if they’re not prepared.
Primal Midgardsormr
You have any ambitions yet realized? We’re gonna realize them right now.
Midgardsormr’s ultimate form, and the form he took in his
previous life as Midgardsormr Zero. He regained this form when Euden and
company took to the Dragon Necropolis in Lefkos, and freed Elysium from his
suffering as Void Elysium.
Power & Durability
Rayquaza
Rayquaza should scale to Dialga and Palkia, as a Shiny
Rayquaza was capable of fighting on even terms of the two members of the
creation trio. Shiny Pokemon are not superior to their normal counterparts in
terms of power (if we don’t consider looking cooler as a power) so it should
stand to reason that a normal Rayquaza would be just as powerful as it. While
this logic is admittedly shaky at best, it would place Rayquaza at a Universal
level of power at the very least, with potential to reach Infinite Multiversal.
Midgardsormr
At least Universal, as he Defeated Xenos with Euden, who destroyed the Universe to create his own world, this possibly reaches Infinite Multiversal, Due to what was needed to create his world, Xenos destroyed all other worlds, which were said to be as many as stars in the sky, to Complex Multiversal, as Dragalia Lost’s multiverse contains the Fire Emblem and Cygames Multiverses, judging by the FEH and Princess Connect collabs.
Speed
Rayquaza
Rayquaza should be 986175 times the Speed of Light, based off it being able to fight on even ground with Deoxys, who moved from the edge of the Galaxy to the Earth in a matter of only a few days, with Mega Rayquaza being even stronger than that
Midgardsormr
Midgardsormr, at the very least, should be faster than lightning, as he can fight the likes of Jupiter, Chronos, and Thor, being able to dodge their Lightning-based attacks, and partake in the fight against Chronos, who in his Nyx form is capable of generating Black Holes, which he can potentially escape from. As Primal Midgardsormr, he should be much faster, as he should be superior to the likes of Morsayati, who was capable of covering the Solar System in Black Mana in a manner of seconds with his Terminus attack
Feats
Rayquaza
· Stopped Groudon & Kyogre’s fight, then stopped their second fight in their primal forms
· Capable of destroying the Grand Meteor Delta
· Can fly up to the sky and descend back down in a matter of seconds
· Fought on par with Altered Forme Dialga & Palkia
· Mega Evolution was so powerful it made an entire tier above Ubers
Midgardsormr
· Capable of fighting against the likes of Morsayati, Satan, and Chronos
· Can dodge lightning generated by Jupiter and Thor
· Defeated Xenos alongside Euden
Comparison

-Curse of Nihility can nullify buffs brought upon by Ancient Power & Dragon Dance
-Rest will cause Rayquaza to be asleep, leaving it vulnerable.
-Outrage can cause it to be confused
-Dragon Ascent lowers defense stats
Midgardsormr
+Stronger & More Durable
+Has skills that can bring down Rayquaza to low health, or even one shot it
+Curse of Nihility can nullify any buffs Rayquaza can get from moves
+No attacks cause his stats to lower
-Slower, and Less experienced
-Cannot take advantage of Rayquaza’s weaknesses
-No Resistance to Hurricane’s ability to cause confusion, alongside no resistance to flinching moves
Results
The Delta Stream that was Rayquaza’s battling skills was certainly impressive, but put up against the Primal Tempest that Midgardsormr’s power holds within, the Emerald Dragon had to Internal Crash out.
“Though you may not recall it, we have lost our most important Dragalia. So I must continue to interact with people and ensure this sacrifice was not in vain.”
The Winner is Midgardsormr.
Next Time… and?
Next time, to finish up the year, it’s a battle between blazing blades, Tsubasa vs Shana (Symphogear vs Shakugan no Shana)
…and, sometime in December, look out for a Shadow vs Maria (Sonic vs Symphogear) Script! Yes, I acknowledge the most obvious thing about it in the script.
